Centara Mirage Lagoon Overwater Villas: Jacuzzi or Family Pool?
The dream is an overwater bungalow where the children get bunk beds, you get a sunrise pool, and nobody has to pretend a beige sofa is an exciting holiday bedroom. Centara Mirage Lagoon Maldives is built for that exact family fantasy, complete with a lazy river, water playground, kids club, games room, and ice cream bar.
The catch is equally clear: this is a lively 145-room family resort in The Atollia, not a candlelit couples’ island where a whisper feels rowdy. Its two current overwater categories are compact, modern, and child-friendly, but reef purists should investigate the current underwater access rather than assuming every blue lagoon is a mature house reef.
Centara Mirage Lagoon in 30 seconds
- Best for: families who want an overwater stay plus a serious roster of pools, games, food, and child-focused facilities.
- Best-value pick: Overwater Villa with Jacuzzi, a 54.4-square-metre villa for two adults and one child.
- Upgrade worth making: Mirage Overwater Sunrise Pool Villa, with 79.4 square metres, bunk beds, and a private pool.
- Think twice if: you want quiet adult romance, sunset-facing water villas, or a reef-first natural island.
The resort is proudly not subtle
Centara Mirage Lagoon is the playful half of The Atollia, connected to the more polished Centara Grand Lagoon. Its theme is an underwater world, and the resort backs that up with a lazy river, multiple pools, a children’s pool, water playground, kids club, teen-friendly games spaces, Candy Spa, and Scoops ice cream bar.
That concentration of family facilities is rare in the Maldives, where many resorts welcome children without giving them much beyond sand and a craft table. Here, a non-snorkeling child can still consider the holiday a major success.
The tradeoff is energy. Expect families, pool noise, scheduled activities, and the occasional small person negotiating loudly about leaving the lazy river, all of which feel normal here rather than intrusive.

The two current overwater categories
The official accommodation pages currently show two distinct overwater options at Mirage: Overwater Villa with Jacuzzi and Mirage Overwater Sunrise Pool Villa. They solve different family sizes and budgets rather than creating an exhausting staircase of near-identical upgrades.
Overwater Villa with Jacuzzi
The Overwater Villa with Jacuzzi is 54.4 square metres, with space for two adults and one child. Its terrace includes an outdoor Jacuzzi, shower, hammock, and views over the water.
This is the compact, lower-cost route to sleeping above the lagoon. It works for a couple with one child who can use the confirmed bedding arrangement, or for parents planning to spend most waking hours at the water complex and restaurants.
The official description does not explicitly promise direct lagoon stairs, so do not infer them from the word overwater. Ask for a current floor plan and confirm whether swimming access is from the villa, a shared platform, or the beach.
Mirage Overwater Sunrise Pool Villa
The Mirage Overwater Sunrise Pool Villa is 79.4 square metres for two adults and two children. It adds a private pool, sunrise orientation, and bunk beds designed for the younger guests.
This is our best overall pick because every upgrade has a job. The extra space reduces family friction, bunk beds remove nightly sofa engineering, and the pool gives everyone a private alternative when the sea is windy or the main pools are delightfully chaotic.
Sunrise orientation means early light and typically less direct afternoon sun than a west-facing deck. If your children wake at dawn anyway, the horizon has finally found an audience that did not need an alarm.
Which room makes sense?
Choose the Jacuzzi villa for a short stay, one-child family, or couple who wants Mirage’s facilities without the higher pool-villa price. Confirm the child’s actual bed and luggage space because 54 square metres is comfortable, not cavernous.
Choose the Sunrise Pool Villa for four people, a longer stay, or children who will genuinely enjoy bunk beds. The pool and extra 25 square metres create a practical family upgrade, not just a prettier booking photo.
Ask for deck privacy, distance to the water playground, orientation, connecting-path traffic, and water access. Our overwater villa-position guide helps you decide whether being close to everything is convenience or a threat to nap time.
Lagoon and snorkeling reality
The resort describes its clear lagoon as suitable for children’s first snorkeling adventure, which signals sheltered, beginner-friendly ambitions. It does not by itself prove a dense house reef immediately below the overwater villas.
The Atollia is a newer multi-island development, so reef-focused guests should ask for a current snorkel map, coral condition, depth, boat channels, and the distance to the nearest established reef edge. A lagoon can be excellent for paddling and first mask practice while offering fewer coral gardens than a natural island drop-off.
Neither villa page clearly states direct sea stairs in the current feature list. Get that answer in writing if deck-to-lagoon swimming is central, and ask the water-sports team which entry is safest for each family member.
Our house-reef guide explains why clear water is only one part of the equation. For children, shallow calm practice may be more valuable than an advanced reef with strong current, but it should be chosen knowingly.

Getting there by speedboat
Centara Mirage Lagoon is reached from Velana International Airport by shared or private speedboat. The official transfer page states that round-trip transfers are mandatory and publishes separate adult, child, shared, and private arrangements.
The boat avoids seaplane daylight restrictions and helps families skip another flight after a long international journey. It can still involve waiting, weather, and shared scheduling, so ask for the realistic airport-to-resort range rather than only the time underway.
Current booking policies show transfer charges may sit outside the room total and use age bands for children. Confirm prices, GST and service charge, infant rules, luggage, meeting point, late-flight policy, and whether a date-limited offer waives any part of the transfer.
Our Maldives transfer comparison helps reveal the value of flexibility. Parents landing near bedtime may appreciate an evening boat far more than a scenic seaplane the next morning.
Meal plans built for family logistics
The resort’s current meal-plan page offers Half Board Plus, Full Board Plus, All Inclusive, and expanded Atollia Destination versions that add dining at neighboring Centara Grand Lagoon. This can turn two connected resorts into one large restaurant collection.
Mirage All Inclusive currently covers buffet breakfast, lunch, and dinner at The Sailhouse, set-menu options at Suan Bua and Acqua, a daily minibar refill, and an all-inclusive beverage menu. The Atollia Destination plan widens access across both islands and their participating bars.
That variety is useful with children who declare yesterday’s favorite food unacceptable today. Still, ask about kids menus, reservation requirements, set-menu limits, premium dishes, room service, ice cream, dietary needs, and whether every family member receives the same plan.
Half Board Plus and Full Board Plus typically include two selected drinks per person, which is not unlimited beverages. Compare the exact rate-attached sheet because “Plus” can sound much thirstier than it is.
Spa and Candy Spa credits have appeared in 2026 offers, but benefits depend on booking and stay dates. Treat any credit as real only when it is printed on your confirmation with eligible treatments and minimum-spend rules.
The Maldives Inland Revenue Authority sets resort Green Tax at USD 12 per person per day from January 1, 2025, with children under two exempt. Confirm Green Tax, GST, service charge, transfers, and mandatory gala dinners in the final total.
Couples: should you stay here without children?
Couples can enjoy Mirage, especially if they love water parks, casual dining, and a playful atmosphere. The Jacuzzi villa gives two adults an overwater base without paying for bunk beds they will only use as a luggage shelf.
For a quiet honeymoon, neighboring Centara Grand Lagoon or a smaller adults-oriented resort is more natural. Mirage’s identity is family fun, and booking it while hoping the children become mysteriously silent is unfair to everyone.
Families: this is the main event
The Sunrise Pool Villa is one of the more thoughtfully configured one-bedroom family water villas in the Maldives because bunk beds acknowledge that children deserve actual sleeping space. The resort then layers on pools, lazy river, water playground, creative activities, gaming, movies, and teen zones.
Overwater still requires serious safety planning. Use our overwater family-safety guide, then ask about pool barriers, bunk-bed age guidance, deck locks, railing gaps, life jackets, and direct-water access.
Parents should also check kids-club supervision ages and opening times rather than assuming “all ages” means drop-off care for every child. A games room and a staffed club can have different rules.

Who should skip Mirage?
Skip it if quiet couple time, a famous mature reef, or a sunset-facing villa defines the trip. The current overwater pool villa faces sunrise, and the wider resort’s strongest assets are energetic family facilities.
Also reconsider if your family needs separate adult bedrooms. The two overwater choices are one-room concepts with child sleeping areas, so a multi-bedroom villa at Centara Grand Lagoon may be more comfortable.
How many nights?
Four or five nights is enough for the pool complex, kids activities, several restaurants, and an overwater day. Six or seven makes sense if you buy a Destination meal plan and want to use both resort islands without scheduling every hour.
Three nights can work because the airport transfer is by boat, but children may consider departure a personal betrayal just as they memorize the lazy-river route. A longer stay also gives sea conditions time to improve after a windy day.

Centara Mirage Lagoon FAQs
How many overwater categories are there?
Two current categories are listed: the 54.4-square-metre Overwater Villa with Jacuzzi and the 79.4-square-metre Mirage Overwater Sunrise Pool Villa.
Which villa is best for a family of four?
The Sunrise Pool Villa is designed for two adults and two children, with bunk beds and a private pool. Confirm ages and bedding on the final booking.
Can you swim directly from the villa?
The current villa pages do not clearly promise private lagoon stairs, so ask before booking. Resort lagoon access and villa-specific access are not interchangeable facts.
How do you reach the resort?
Shared and private speedboats operate from Velana International Airport, and return transfers are mandatory. Charges can be separate unless a specific offer includes them.
Is Centara Mirage all-inclusive?
All Inclusive is available, along with plus and destination plans. The broadest Atollia options include participating dining and bars across both connected resorts.
Is it good for couples?
Couples who like a playful family atmosphere can enjoy it, but honeymooners seeking hush and sunset romance will likely prefer Centara Grand Lagoon or another resort.
The verdict
Centara Mirage Lagoon makes overwater family travel feel designed rather than tolerated. The Jacuzzi Villa is the compact value option, while the Sunrise Pool Villa earns our recommendation with bunk beds, more space, and a private pool.
Come for the lazy river, child-focused facilities, flexible meal plans, and speedboat convenience, not for castaway silence. If your ideal Maldives soundtrack includes delighted splashing, Mirage is speaking your family’s language.
