OBLU NATURE Helengeli by SENTIDO reopened in late 2023 after a substantial renovation that added the current water villas, water suite, new dining, overwater gym and Kids Nature Centre. The resort now publishes 153 villas across beach, lagoon-edge and overwater settings.

The island sits at the outer edge of North Malé Atoll, roughly 50 minutes from Velana International Airport by speedboat. That makes it reachable without a daylight-only seaplane while still placing it far enough from the capital for a convincing reef escape.

Sunrise Water Villa with Pool

The Sunrise Water Villa with Pool measures 86 square metres and accommodates two adults plus one child. Helengeli has 18 of them, each with a king bed, direct lagoon access and a 10-square-metre private pool.

The eastern orientation puts the first light on the deck and can make mornings feel like a private event. It may also shade earlier in the afternoon, which some pool lovers will see as a drawback and some heat-avoiders will call excellent design.

The current page lists a double vanity and an enclosed, sensuous bathroom. That differs from the Sunset room’s open-air-bathroom note, so bathroom style is another reason to choose by more than compass direction.

Helengeli has one Honeymoon Sunset Water Villa, measuring 129 square metres and officially allowing two adults plus one child. It combines a larger romantic deck, sunset outlook, ocean-view bathroom, 10-square-metre pool and a glass-floor section.

The honeymoon name does not make children forbidden, which is a useful reminder to read occupancy instead of letting a category title write policy. Couples gain the strongest sense of occasion, but scarcity may matter more than any individual amenity during popular dates.

A glass floor is a viewing detail, not an underwater bedroom or a guaranteed aquarium. Visibility below depends on light, water and whether any fish feel like clocking in.

Sunset Water Suite with Pool

The sole Sunset Water Suite is the most flexible overwater layout at 150 square metres. It accepts two adults plus two children or three adults plus one child, and adds a separate living room, walk-in closet and 20-square-metre pool.

That pool is twice the published area of those attached to the standard water villas. The end-of-jetty position and wider deck create privacy, while the living room prevents a family of four from treating the king bed as its only indoor sofa.

What about the Lagoon Villa with Pool?

The Lagoon Villa with Pool measures 78 square metres and is built half on land and half over water. Its deck has a plunge pool and sunset lagoon outlook, but the room is shoreline-based rather than a fully detached stilt villa on the jetty.

That hybrid can be ideal for guests who want water-edge atmosphere with faster access to island paths. It should not be quietly counted as a conventional overwater bungalow when comparing inventory.

The reef is close, and the channels deserve respect

Send flight details at least 72 hours ahead and ask about late arrivals, infant life jackets, luggage, private transfers and seasickness seating. Unlike a seaplane, the boat can operate beyond daylight, but it is still scheduled transport rather than a taxi.

The Island Plan, decoded

The Spice supplies breakfast, lunch and dinner through international buffets, live stations and themed nights. Raa Bandhi Bar runs from morning into the night with included selected cocktails, mocktails and other plan beverages.

Just Grill serves Mediterranean-style seafood and meats, while Raga Route presents progressive Indian dinners with pre-booking. The current OBLU Island Plan includes specialty dinner eligibility based on stay length, while Just Grill lunch and Raga Route sunset champagne remain chargeable.

The minibar is replenished daily with beer, soft drinks and water, and selected drinks flow at the main and specialty venues. Premium bottles and items outside the plan still need a price check.

Snorkeling equipment, standard kayaks and paddleboards are included, as are one line-fishing outing and one sunset dhoni ride per guest per stay, subject to registration and weather. This is a substantive plan, but a missed pre-booking can still make an included dinner theoretical.
