Adaaran Club Rannalhi Water Villas: Closed Since March 2026

Adaaran Club Rannalhi once made the classic Maldives promise unusually easy: land at Malé, ride a speedboat for about 45 minutes, and unpack above the lagoon. Since March 1, 2026, that particular dream has been off the menu.

The Water Villa and Sunset Water Villa categories are closed until further notice, while the island’s 96 Classic rooms remain in operation. This guide exists to stop an old room photo, an outdated agent page, or an enthusiastic search snippet from turning “closed” into “probably bookable.”

Rannalhi in 30 seconds

  • Current overwater status: Water Villas and Sunset Water Villas have been closed since March 1, 2026, with no published reopening date.
  • What can be booked: 48 Classic Ocean View Rooms and 48 Classic Beach View Rooms, each 38 m² and sleeping up to three adults.
  • Island advantage: a roughly 45-minute scheduled speedboat from Velana International Airport.
  • Best plan now: stay in a Classic room for the reef and all-inclusive rhythm, or choose another resort if sleeping above water is non-negotiable.

Adaaran Club Rannalhi is still operating as a compact South Malé Atoll resort with beaches, buffet dining, two bars, spa treatments, water sports, excursions, and a house reef. What it is not currently selling is an overnight stay on its overwater jetty.

That distinction matters because the official website still contains broad marketing references to overwater villas and sunset-washed lagoon stays. Its live accommodation list, however, now shows only the two Classic categories, which matches the closure notices circulated to travel partners.

The closure is not a minor footnote

A February 2026 trade notice states that both the Water Villa and Sunset Water Villa categories would close from March 1, 2026, until further notice. The notice is reproduced by established tour channels including Coral Travel, and later 2026 guest reports also describe the overwater section as unavailable.

“Until further notice” is not a reopening date, and it should never be converted into one by optimism. As of this August 2026 fact check, the official booking inventory lists only Classic Ocean View and Classic Beach View rooms.

Do not pay for a Water Villa based on a cached brochure, a package page with old copy, or a reseller that has not confirmed live inventory. Ask the seller and Adaaran for written confirmation of the exact room name, operating status, and what happens if the category remains closed.

If an existing reservation was made before the closure, use the relocation terms issued for that booking rather than assuming every guest receives the same alternative. Some trade notices mentioned moves to an Ocean Villa at Adaaran Select Hudhuran Fushi, but eligibility belongs to the affected contract and arrival date.

What the closed water villas were

Historical current-era sales material described 26 water bungalows arranged in 13 paired pavilions over the lagoon. The categories were Water Villa and sunset-facing Sunset Water Villa, with king beds, private decks, wooden lagoon ladders, and no private pool.

Recent travel-partner inventory generally listed about 57 m² and a two-adult capacity for each category, although older sources disagree about dimensions and occupancy. Those details are useful for recognizing the product, not for planning a 2026 stay in a room that cannot currently be booked.

The sunset category’s advantage was orientation rather than a bigger private pool or butler tier. The ordinary Water Villa faced the broader lagoon panorama, while both offered the architectural treat of stepping from deck to sea.

Any future reopening could bring different names, layouts, sizes, or inclusions after work is completed. A reopened category deserves a fresh fact sheet, not a lovingly preserved paragraph from 2025 wearing a new booking button.

The two rooms you can actually reserve

The official live accommodation page lists 48 Classic Ocean View Rooms and 48 Classic Beach View Rooms. Both are 38 m², accept king or twin bedding, and have a published capacity of three adults.

Classic Ocean View Rooms emphasize an Indian Ocean panorama from a balcony or terrace. Classic Beach View Rooms look toward beach and garden, also with a balcony or terrace, and their appeal is the shortest possible argument between bed and sand.

Both categories include air conditioning, an ensuite bathroom, Wi-Fi, safe, television, hair dryer, tea and coffee facilities, two sunbeds, and snorkeling equipment during the stay. Neither is a detached private villa, and room blocks contain multiple accommodations.

I would choose Ocean View only after requesting a recent photograph from the precise block and floor. “Ocean view” can be a magnificent blue sweep or a palm-framed suggestion, while a ground-floor Beach View may prove more useful for children or anyone who dislikes stairs.

Ask whether the 38 m² includes outdoor space, how an extra bed changes circulation, and which rooms have the easiest beach access. Guests with mobility requirements should request step counts, bathroom details, restaurant distance, and firm allocation notes rather than relying on a general accessible-room promise.

Should an overwater hunter stay anyway?

Possibly, if the real priorities are easy airport access, frequent snorkeling, a small island, and an inclusive package. Sleeping on land does not cancel turquoise water, and a beach room may provide a calmer, roomier-feeling routine for families.

No, if the private deck and ladder were the reason for crossing oceans. Browse our Maldives overwater bungalow guide and spend the premium at a resort that will put the confirmed room above water, not merely the memory of it.

A split trip can work if Rannalhi’s price and speedboat simplicity are attractive. Begin here for the reef and island energy, then move to a verified overwater room elsewhere, making sure the transfer between properties is arranged rather than imagined.

The reef remains a serious reason to visit

Rannalhi wraps a small island with lagoon and reef access, and the resort provides snorkeling equipment through the stay. The water-sports and dive teams are still the correct first stop because visibility, current, tide, boat routes, and safe entry change by day.

The official welcome guidance warns about strong currents, says not to swim alone, and notes that no lifeguard is on duty. A short swim from shore can be better than a dramatic entry if staff say the current route or weather requires it.

Our overwater snorkeling safety guide still applies to shore-based reef days: use a buddy, establish the exit before entering, wear appropriate sun protection, and never stand on living coral. Do not feed fish or remove shells, even when a particularly photogenic one appears to be seeking representation.

Snorkelers should ask where healthy coral begins, which side is sheltered, and what ability level the house-reef route requires. Divers can request current operator affiliation, certification rules, site schedule, equipment details, medical requirements, and the cancellation policy for rough seas.

The speedboat advantage survives the villa closure

Adaaran describes the scheduled speedboat journey from Velana International Airport as approximately 45 minutes. Unlike a seaplane, the boat does not require a scenic-flight baggage allowance or a daylight-only aviation timetable, though weather and shared departure coordination still affect the day.

Hotels.com asks guests to contact the resort with flight details at least 72 hours before arrival. Keep the transfer confirmation handy, identify the Adaaran airport representative after baggage claim, and ask how long the shared boat may wait for other flights.

For travel from November 1, 2025, through October 31, 2026, current live booking information quotes a mandatory round-trip shared speedboat at USD 190 per adult and USD 95 per child aged two through eleven. These August 2026 figures are dated, so obtain the final charge and tax treatment on your own confirmation.

Motion-sensitive travelers should prepare before boarding and keep water, medication, and a light layer accessible. Our Maldives speedboat versus seaplane guide explains why a less cinematic transfer can be the more civilized arrival.

All-inclusive, translated into actual meals

The current all-inclusive schedule places buffet breakfast from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m., lunch from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m., and dinner from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. The main restaurant combines international food, Maldivian dishes, and themed evenings in an open-air dining room.

Nika Bar serves drinks from 10 a.m. to midnight, while Cocktail Bar currently runs from 9 a.m. to midnight. Both publish morning, afternoon, and late-night snack windows, which is helpful when a snorkel outing and a buffet timetable refuse to become friends.

Selected package extras can include snorkeling gear, short non-motorized water-sports sessions, a sunset photo cruise for qualifying stays, spa credit, and an excursion discount. In-room dining, private beach dinners, premium drinks, motorized sports, diving, and some excursions may cost more.

Request the dated inclusion sheet attached to the chosen rate and mark what happens on departure day. An all-inclusive wristband is a dining contract, not a magical bracelet with jurisdiction over every coconut on the island.

Send allergies and dietary needs to the resort before travel, then speak with the restaurant team on arrival. A varied buffet helps many diets, but serious allergies require direct answers about preparation and cross-contact.

The honest total cost

Add the room, speedboat, Green Tax, any other tax or service not displayed, excluded drinks, spa, diving, premium excursions, private meals, insurance, and festive supplements. The water-villa closure may lower the room bill, but it does not turn a Maldives transfer into public transportation.

The Maldives Inland Revenue Authority set resort Green Tax at USD 12 per person per day from January 1, 2025, with children under two exempt. Check the current MIRA guidance and whether the booking total already includes it.

Direct promotions can carry spa credit, equipment, excursion discounts, celebration benefits, or child offers, each with conditions. Compare the final payable amount and cancellation terms, not the largest percentage printed in a cheerful font.

Our true cost guide works just as well for a temporarily land-only resort. It will also reveal whether moving to an operating water villa elsewhere is cheaper than accepting Rannalhi plus several consolation upgrades.

A day here now

Start early with a staff-approved house-reef route, then return for the final half-hour of breakfast rather than racing a plate of eggs toward closing time. Spend late morning under palms or on a short non-motorized session if the package and weather cooperate.

After lunch, choose a spa treatment, dive, excursion, or shameless nap in the air conditioning. A closed jetty does not require a full schedule of emotional compensation.

Take the sunset photo cruise if your rate and stay length include it, or watch dusk from the beach with a drink from Nika Bar. Dinner is buffet-led, and evening entertainment can include live music, DJ nights, movies, karaoke, or a beach event depending on the current program.

Who will enjoy Rannalhi in 2026?

Snorkelers, first-time Maldives visitors, sociable couples, and families who value a short speedboat can still have a very good trip. The compact island and single main restaurant create an easy rhythm with fewer decisions than a sprawling resort.

It also suits travelers who prefer sand outside the room and do not need a private pool. A ground-floor Beach View Room can be more practical than an exposed deck for small children, cautious swimmers, or anyone who enjoys an unceremonious barefoot exit.

Who should skip it for now?

Skip Rannalhi if a working overwater room is the point of the holiday. No amount of excellent snorkeling makes a Classic room float, and accuracy is kinder than pretending the architecture is a minor detail.

Travelers wanting several included à la carte restaurants, adults-only silence, a private plunge pool, or a highly personalized luxury tier may also prefer another resort. Rannalhi is casual, buffet-centered, and active rather than hushed and ceremonious.

Anyone troubled by visible construction should ask what work continues near the old water-villa structures and whether noise, boat movement, or view interruptions affect Classic rooms. Request dates and a map instead of accepting the phrase “away from guest areas” without geography.

How long makes sense?

Four nights is enough for two reef mornings, one excursion or spa day, and one weather buffer. The speedboat keeps the arrival tax on time lower than at remote atolls.

Five to seven nights suits divers and guests who enjoy a repeatable buffet-and-beach routine. Variety seekers should split the trip with a confirmed water villa or local island, provided all inter-property transfers are documented.

Two nights feels rushed once the shared boat, check-in, and departure timing take their portion. Three can work as the simple half of a split stay, but it should not be booked as an overwater finale while the villas remain closed.

Questions to send before payment

Ask the resort to confirm that Water Villas and Sunset Water Villas remain closed, whether any reopening date exists, what work is happening, and which guest areas may hear or see it. Request the exact Classic block, floor, view, bed, maximum occupancy, stairs, beach route, and recent photographs.

Obtain the return speedboat price, meeting instructions, waiting estimate, late-flight plan, Green Tax treatment, all-inclusive sheet, child policy, excursion terms, dietary plan, and cancellation wording. If a reseller claims it can book overwater, require written confirmation from Adaaran before money moves.

Adaaran Club Rannalhi FAQs

Can I book a water villa at Rannalhi now?

No confirmed live water-villa inventory was available at this August 2026 check. Water Villa and Sunset Water Villa categories have been closed since March 1, 2026, until further notice.

Is the whole resort closed?

No. The resort continues to sell 48 Classic Ocean View and 48 Classic Beach View Rooms, while the closure applies to the overwater categories.

When will the water villas reopen?

No reliable reopening date had been published by August 2026. Treat any proposed date as provisional until the category appears in live official inventory and Adaaran confirms it in writing.

How large are the current Classic rooms?

Both Classic Ocean View and Classic Beach View rooms are officially listed at 38 m². Each accepts king or twin bedding and has a published maximum of three adults.

How do guests reach the island?

The resort arranges a shared speedboat from Velana International Airport, with a journey of about 45 minutes. Send flight details at least 72 hours ahead and confirm the mandatory return charge.

Is Rannalhi still worth visiting?

Yes for its reef, beach, speedboat access, and simple all-inclusive routine. No for a traveler whose essential requirement is sleeping in an operating overwater villa.

The verdict

Rannalhi remains a functioning, approachable Maldives resort, but its dedicated overwater review now needs a large red reality check. The Water Villa and Sunset Water Villa have been closed since March 1, 2026, and no trustworthy reopening date exists yet.

Book a Classic room if the reef, beach, inclusive meals, and easy speedboat already sound like enough. Choose a different island if the private lagoon ladder is the dream, then return to this page when Rannalhi can prove its jetty is ready for overnight guests again.

Research note

I checked Adaaran’s live accommodation, Classic room, all-inclusive, dining, offer, and resort pages, plus current booking inventory, 2026 trade closure notices, and Maldives Inland Revenue Authority tax guidance. The official site’s remaining generic water-villa language conflicts with its live two-category inventory, so this guide gives the dated operational notice priority and tells readers to obtain direct written confirmation.
