This two-level family category allows four adults and two children, or six adults, according to the current resort page. It contains a king bedroom, a separate room with sofa bed, two bathrooms, living area, powder room, outdoor shower, overwater pool deck, and lagoon-facing balcony.

The official page specifically describes it for families with older children or couples traveling together. That wording is sensible because stairs, open water, and a sofa bed create a different proposition from two equal conventional bedrooms.

Ask for the precise bed dimensions and privacy of the second sleeping room before booking six adults. Maximum occupancy answers who may enter the reservation, not whether every grown-up will wake feeling equally diplomatic.

Two Bedroom Overwater Pool Residence: 295 square metres

This is the first large-group option that is fully committed to the overwater experience. Its 295 square metres include a king room, twin room, two en suite bathrooms, living and dining area, pantry, powder room, broad deck, curved infinity pool, open-air pavilion, and sea steps.

Published occupancy is four adults with two children, or six adults. The equal-status second bedroom and proper communal spaces make it more convincing for friends than the sofa-bed layout in the smaller Family Lagoon Villa.

It also solves the familiar group problem in which everyone wants the water view but nobody wants to share one bathroom. The question is not whether it is impressive, but whether its nightly premium beats booking two separate 100-square-metre villas and gaining two pools.

Its position is marketed for both sunrise and sunset views, which makes it the panorama choice rather than a simple east-west decision. This is a multigenerational or celebratory residence, and its capacity should be paired with a written bed plan for the actual ages traveling.

Three Bedroom Lagoon Pool Residence: 610 square metres

The largest lagoon-facing choice has three bedrooms, a published limit of six adults plus three children or nine adults, a large infinity pool, full kitchen, and indoor-outdoor dining. Its terrace provides direct lagoon access and sunset views while retaining easier access to island facilities than the farthest overwater residence.

This is best understood as a lagoon residence with a very large waterside footprint, not merely an inflated overwater villa. Pick it when seclusion, family living, and proximity need to coexist, then confirm the exact land-to-water layout using the resort’s current floor plan.

What Club InterContinental actually includes

IHG calls Maamunagau its first and only all-Club InterContinental resort. The core live benefits include breakfast at Café Umi, afternoon tea from 15:00 to 17:00, and an evening aperitif from 17:00 to 19:00, with nonalcoholic choices for families.

The resort also lists private seaplane-terminal lounge access, snorkeling gear, selected nonmotorized water sports, island bicycles, Curator service, and a 30-minute resort photo session among its stay benefits. Exact venue, menu, activity instruction, and booking-channel eligibility should still be confirmed for your rate.

Club benefits are not the same as half board, full board, or all-inclusive. Breakfast, tea, and aperitif can reduce the daily food bill nicely, but lunch, dinner, premium drinks, minibar, and room service follow the purchased meal plan.

Maamunagau’s local manta period aligns with the northeast monsoon, broadly December through April, and the resort’s 2026 Manta Retreat took place in March. Wild mantas respond to plankton, tide, weather, and other conditions, so neither the season nor a retreat itinerary guarantees a sighting.

The nearby Hanifaru Bay phenomenon is different. Hanifaru lies within the Baa Atoll Biosphere Reserve and typically sees feeding aggregations during the southwest monsoon from roughly May to November, as explained by UNESCO’s Baa Atoll profile.

A traveler visiting in March may target Maamunagau’s juvenile-manta activity, while a summer traveler may ask about Hanifaru excursions and their operating rules. Do not blend the two seasons into one year-round manta guarantee, and never touch or chase a ray for a photograph.
